Introduction

Abstract

Foreign language teaching has established itself as a scientific field in its own right, whilst, from its very beginnings, developing through constant dialogue with other disciplines. Far from being limited to the pedagogical application of linguistic models, it forms part of a field of inquiry where linguistics and language sciences, sociolinguistics, translation studies, psychology, as well as cognitive sciences and neurosciences, intersect with other fields within the humanities, social sciences and educational sciences.
