Abstract
This paper is an attempt to rethink functionalism in linguistics, not as a theory but rather as a method. To achieve this goal, I would like to point out a possible pragmatic turn by showing that some inquiries in functional linguistics were moved by a principle of relevance different than the one openly claimed.
